Town & Region

Nestled at the foothills of the majestic Flinders Ranges, Hawker is a charming outback town that serves as the perfect gateway to unforgettable adventures. Surrounded by rugged beauty and stunning natural landscapes, Hawker boasts a rich history and vibrant culture waiting to be explored.

Wilpena Panorama

Jeff Morgan, local artist has painted a 360° view from St Mary Peak. See how “Ron’s Creek” changes perspective, just by walking from one end to the other. There is also a large collection of rocks and minerals, model cars and his private collection of ”real cars”.

Fred Teague’s Museum

Look into the past from “Mr Flinders Ranges” point of view. There is a seismograph to watch the earth’s movements in and around Hawker. Also many big tremors which have taken place overseas are recorded here.

Eating Out

In Hawker, you have the choices of the Flinders Food Co, BP Roadhouse, General Store and the Hawker Hotel. Within 50km there are options such as ‘the Woolshed restaurant’ in Rawnsley Park, the “Craddock pub” and Wilpena has a restaurant.

Heysen Trail

The Heysen Trail is know for a stopover at Hawker. Many walkers experience the Heysen Trail and cyclists enjoy riding the Mawson Trail.

Wilpena Pound

55km from Hawker. With a crater like mountain range, the highest point is St Mary Peak at 1188m. The area is 17km long, 8km wide, 786m above sea level and the inside floor of the pound is 200m higher than the surrounding countryside. With 8 different walking trails ranging from easy to hard, 30 minutes to 9 hours return.

Hawker Heritage Walk

Sydney has 26 points of interest, Hawker has 34! A booklet (small fee) and brochures are available that provide a short history on buildings and objects around the town. Each building and landmark is numbered for easy identification.
